Psychological Time, The Reconnection Point And The Divine
Did you know that there is never a time when you are separated from the Divine essence that runs through your life – not even for a nanosecond? It is always there, unwavering and steady, but your perception can make you think otherwise. And that mostly happens whenever you are feeling fear, anxiety, worry, etc. One way to ease your anxiety and get back into alignment with the Divine essence is to practice being in the present moment as much as possible.
Eckhart Tolle, says in his book, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment: “All negativity is caused by an accumulation of psychological time and denial of the present. Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry – all forms of fear – are caused by too much future, and not enough presence.”
Tolle talks about “psychological time,” and that seems such a good phrase to describe it, especially considering how much all of this fear is only happening inside the mind. For a long time humans have wrestled with the question, “Does time really exist outside of our mind’s perception of it?” When you look at what quantum physics tells us, it sure seems like time is psychological in nature.
Sean Carroll, a theoretical physicist at Caltech and author of the book, From Eternity to Here: The Quest for the Ultimate Theory of Time, said in an article on Wired.com: “The weird thing about the arrow of time is that it’s not to be found in the underlying laws of physics. It’s not there. So it’s a feature of the universe we see, but not a feature of the laws of the individual particles.”
The only part of time that is real is right now, this moment. The past is no longer real. The future has not happened yet. Your state of mind about each can have a residual effect on you, of course, but neither is real. You can’t go back in time and say “I am connected to the Divine back there.” Nor can you predict the connection you might have in the future. The only time you can have such a connection is when you suspend time, and the only time you can do that is right now.
Finally, consider the fact that your body is always only fully present in the right now. Even if you could get into a time machine, should one ever be invented, your body could only be in the present moment of whenever you are. It’s the mind that wanders into memories or spends energy worrying of a possible future that is still yet to pass and so is an illusion. Mark Twain put this well when he quipped, “I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.”
The truth is that when you worry, you immerse yourself in illusion and yank yourself out of alignment with the Divine. That’s because the Divine exists where there is no arrow of time and where there is no illusion. The present moment, because it precludes the arrow of time and illusion, is the reconnection point between your mind and the Divine.
