Do you know who you really are?

What does it mean to bring who you really are to what you do? To answer that question, there’s one other fundamental question to answer first: Do you know who you really are?

Okay, I know that sounds deep, and while I usually enjoy existential conversations, that’s not where I’m trying to go here. Well… not exactly.

I’m talking about how the essence of who you are contains a unique promise of value. You can’t help yourself. You must give, be, and do it. And it shows up all the time even when you’re not all that conscious of it.

So, what it means to bring who you really are to what you do is that you’re consciously engaging your UPV. As Gay Hendricks would say (in his book, The Big Leap), you’re choosing to work in your Zone of Genius.

A wise person once said, “Everyone is gifted, but some people never open their package.”

There are so many people on the planet living in automatic mode out of necessity or out of habit — not very aware of the “tools” they’ve been gifted with, not actively and consciously rising to their own potential.

Let’s wake up.

From the poem, The Invitation, by Oriah Mountain Dreamer:

It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for,
And if you dare to dream of meeting
Your heart’s longing.
