Illusion of Job Security
In her book, Writing Down The Bones, Natalie Goldberg wrote, “A friend once told me: ‘Trust in love and it will take you where you need to go.’ I want to add, ‘Trust in WHAT you love, continue to do it, and it will take you where you need to go.’ And don’t worry too much about security. You will eventually have a deep security when you begin to do what you want. How many of us with our big salaries are actually secure anyway?”
I think she has a great point. Yes, the part of about doing what you love, but the part about job security too. There’s really no such thing as job security. If you’ve ever been laid off or terminated from a job, you know exactly what I mean.
I’m saying this not to trigger fear but to remind you that instead of dwelling on whether or not you have security, concentrate on making the most of yourself so that you come into demand. So that they clamor for your talents and your positive energy.
And once you’ve been hired for your talent and energy, don’t become complacent. Don’t subjugate yourself for the illusion of security. From this moment forward, promise yourself that you won’t shrink back… don’t make yourself small ever again for the sake of the illusion of security.
